Qualifications related to yoga & massage

  • Diploma Hatha Yoga (Aranya Tibetan Order with Anne Sharpen) 2009-2010 with my prenatal teacher as it was too hard to continue the one below with little ones until they were at school.
  • Diploma Satyananda Yoga (Academy Yoga Science) 2003-Jan 2014 (over 1440hrs).  I have incorporated the  teachings into my life since 2003 (over 20 years).  I helped teach at the ashram and with yogic studies teacher training once I had qualified.  It was possible to do this intensive 1440hr diploma in 2.5 yrs back to back even though it took me 11 year alongside pregnancy and raising my bubs (now adults). There's diplomas and there are diplomas (like this).  They are not the same in my experience. At all.
  • Yoga Therapist (Yoga Therapy Institute)2014- 2016
  • Ayurvedic Lifestyle Consultant (Dr. Rama Prasad & Caroline Robinson) 2019
  • Hypnobirthing Practitioner (Sophie Fletcher, Mindful Mamma) updated 2021 - I'm not doing this now as hypnobirthing is no longer covered by insurance.
  • Diploma Remedial Massage Therapy (Evolve College) Feb 2022
  • MFR - I am a professionally qualified myofascial release practitioner as of 2024 (covered all modules and areas)
  • Core MFR, Applied MFR, TMJ, Neck, Pelvis, Advanced MFR, Cranium, Headaches, Advanced TMJ, postural assessment, advanced Pelvis, MFR for hip impingement syndromes, Treatment of headaches, (Osseous integration & Cranial Fascial Release is the next 4 day (32 hr) course in March 2026 followed by a 2 day polyvagal approach to head, neck and jaw with Steven Goldstein.
  • Craniosacral therapy 1 & 2 - techniques to ease restrictions along the spine, diaphragms, jaw, head.
  • SER1 (somatic energy release) helping to release trauma in the body dialoguing with the client's inner physician and holding space for you to do your own healing or let go as ready.
  • YIN yoga teacher training (this was just 50hrs to incorporate into soundhealing but it was much the same as what we often do in class already except for getting to learn more about the meridians and Chinese history as opposed to Indian history & philosophy as in my Satyananda training).
  • MYOYIN acupoints (balls etc) - we incorporate these tools into class and also for massage home care
  • Reiki (all levels incl Master/teacher) - with Sarah Knox 2023-2025 -  I find reiki works well with other modalities and like to incorporate it in chakra healing work in particular with crystals.  It is very simple to learn and anyone can do it.
  • I invite Sound healers to treat us to soundbaths or collaborate with me guiding yin or myofascial influenced yoga.  I like to use my sound bowls in my yoga classes to externalise after relaxation and if collaborating, I like to be an apprentice and help out with the sound as directed once the yoga component is complete.
ACCREDITATIONS / memberships - all  and valid
  • Yoga - Yoga Australia 3813 exp. - recognised as a Senior Level yoga teacher (YA recognises teachers of just 200hrs even with no experience so this doesn't actually mean a lot but it seems to be what people look for to check you have some formal training which is the main reason I'm with them as well as other bodies)
  • Satyananda Yoga - SYTA  - classical therapeutic style of yoga rich in meditation and pranayama - this is incredible training quality with really high standards in my opinion which is why it was almost impossible to do with children.  I don't resonate with the Guru system personally but respect all my teachers deeply - they live and breath yoga as do I.  I feel that you can trust the teachings but at the same time you need to exercise your own discrimination based on your own realizations, truth and experience and not just take someone else's word for it.  We are all human and if you put someone on a throne or pedestal, they are bound to fall off and disappoint!  I feel you should never blindly follow as this leads to harm.  So though I respect the systematic teachings and am deeply grateful for having them shared with me, I would not place my faith blindly in another without questioning or knowing where I stand or first having my own recognition of that truth if that makes sense.  So I encourage people to explore their own relationship to a teaching whilst offering guidance because what works one way for someone may be different for another.

I am a Senior level teacher and qualified/experienced yoga therapist.  Yoga is my passion as it helps bring balance and rewire our neural pathways, changing negative to positive and growing/ learning to live to our full potential.  I am also an Ayurveda Lifestyle consultant, a remedial massage therapist, a myofascial release therapist and practice craniosacral therapy and somato-emotional release which I am also passionate about.  These modalities all complement each other and I draw from several modalities in one session often.  I have been practicing yoga for 30 years and teaching for 20 years. I am trained to teach Hatha yoga and Satyananda yoga (which is a traditional, classical, therapeutic and meditative style) and am also trained in YIN, so I use my knowledge of all three to create my classes. I'd have to say my classes are on the more classical side though I add many extra techniques as I feel they would benefit people, including ball work etc, so it has morphed over the years to suit the clientelle and also to include all the extra knowledge.  My training journey began in 2003 when I moved to Australia, pregnant with my first child. I opened up Yoga in Hornsby in 2010 after completing a diploma in Hatha yoga.

Mostly, my classes are small and taught in a private studio.  I have fully, up-to-date insurance, wwc, first aid/CPR, Yoga Australia membership and SYTA membership.  I am a qualified Yoga Therapist (recognised by AAYT & a member of AAYT).  I attend regular professional development courses, workshops, conferences to update and develop my skills.

This Government accredited Satyananda Teaching qualification is a Nationally recognised course.  I am affiliated with SYTA and Yoga Australia (SYTA3813).   Due to the high number of training hours (1440hrs) it is recognised by Yoga Australia as being a course over 200hrs.  I am delighted to share that rebates are again available for yoga if you are on certain healthcare plans and that may be with or without doc referral depending on your plan.    Check with your healthfunds if you can be reimbursed for yoga and also for body work/ Remedial massage/CST/MFR.
